Days 1-5

Barbados

Barbados combines calm Caribbean-side beaches with a livelier Atlantic coast, plus a food and rum scene (this is where rum was first distilled) that stands out even by Caribbean standards.

**Nearby and worth it:** Harrison’s Cave and the island’s compact size mean a full loop of Barbados by car is realistic in a single day if you want to see beyond the coast.

Days 6-10

Cancun

Cancun’s Hotel Zone is Mexico’s classic all-inclusive beach strip, turquoise Caribbean water and white sand, with the ancient Mayan ruins of the Yucatan a short trip inland.

**Nearby and worth it:** Chichen Itza (one of the New Seven Wonders) and the cenotes (natural swimming sinkholes) around Tulum are both popular day trips from the Hotel Zone.
