Costa Calma

Resort GuidesSpain › Fuerteventura

A quiet southern resort next to Fuerteventura’s most famous beach, Playa de Sotavento.

Costa Calma

Overview

Costa Calma sits on Fuerteventura’s Jandía peninsula, right by Playa de Sotavento — one of the Canaries’ most photographed beaches, and a world-class kitesurfing spot. It’s a low-rise, relatively quiet resort built around that beach rather than a big town centre.

Families & toddlers

The beach is huge and, depending on the tide, forms shallow lagoons that are genuinely good for younger children to paddle in, though as with most of this coast, the wind can be strong — useful to know if you’re bringing small children rather than kitesurfing yourself.

Couples, teens & nightlife

A low-key resort in the evenings, with hotel restaurants and a handful of beach bars rather than any real nightlife — this suits couples and families after a quiet, unhurried break.

Seniors & accessibility

Flat and easy to get around, with the beach itself the main draw rather than a town to explore — a straightforward, relaxed choice for less mobile visitors, provided the near-constant wind here isn’t an issue.

Best time to visit

Warm and dry year-round, windiest of the Fuerteventura resorts covered here (part of its appeal for watersports).
