Ciutadella, Menorca’s former capital, has a genuinely historic old town built around a working harbour, with grand old buildings, a cathedral and a lively harbourside restaurant scene — plus several good beaches a short drive away.
Families & toddlers
The town itself is more about wandering and eating well than a beach-resort setup, but nearby coves (like Cala en Turqueta and Cala Macarella, reachable by car or boat trip) are excellent family beaches worth the short trip.
Couples, teens & nightlife
A genuinely atmospheric harbourside evening scene — restaurants and bars around the port make this one of the nicer places in the Balearics for an evening out without a big nightlife crowd.
Seniors & accessibility
The old town has some cobbled, uneven streets in its historic core, but the harbourfront itself is level and pleasant — worth pacing yourself around the hillier parts.
Best time to visit
May to October for the beaches nearby; the old town itself is worth visiting almost any time of year.
