Home to PortAventura World — one of Europe’s biggest theme parks — plus a proper beach resort.
Overview
Salou is the Costa Dorada’s main resort town, and its biggest single draw is right on its doorstep: PortAventura World, one of Europe’s largest theme park resorts (rides, a water park, and a Ferrari-branded park all on one site). Most visitors fly into Barcelona or the more local Reus airport.
Families & toddlers
PortAventura World makes this one of the strongest theme-park-plus-beach combinations in Europe, and Salou’s own beaches are long, sandy and well maintained for the days you want a break from queuing for rides.
Couples, teens & nightlife
A lively promenade with a good range of bars and restaurants, busier and younger in feel during peak summer — plenty of choice for an evening out beyond the theme park itself.
Seniors & accessibility
The seafront promenade is flat and pleasant; PortAventura itself involves a lot of walking, so pacing a visit (or focusing on specific areas) is worth planning for less mobile visitors.
Best time to visit
PortAventura and the beach are both best April to October; the theme park typically has reduced opening in the depths of winter, worth checking before booking outside peak season.
