Malia

Resort GuidesGreece › Crete

Crete’s best-known young-adult nightlife resort, with a real old town and beach beyond the strip.

Malia

Overview

Malia is best known internationally as one of Greece’s biggest young-adult party resorts, centred on a dense strip of bars and clubs — but it also has a quieter old town and a long, sandy beach away from that strip.

Families & toddlers

The beach itself is long and sandy, and family accommodation tends to sit in the quieter old-town end of the resort, away from the nightlife strip — worth being specific about location when booking.

Couples, teens & nightlife

The strip is genuinely one of the most intense party destinations in the Mediterranean for young adults; couples or families wanting to avoid it entirely should look at Hersonissos or Chania instead.

Seniors & accessibility

Not a natural fit given the resort’s nightlife reputation, though the old town end is calmer than the strip itself.

Best time to visit

The nightlife season runs roughly June to September; the beach is good May to October.
