Costa Calma sits on Fuerteventura’s Jandía peninsula, right by Playa de Sotavento — one of the Canaries’ most photographed beaches, and a world-class kitesurfing spot. It’s a low-rise, relatively quiet resort built around that beach rather than a big town centre.

The beach is huge and, depending on the tide, forms shallow lagoons that are genuinely good for younger children to paddle in, though as with most of this coast, the wind can be strong — useful to know if you’re bringing small children rather than kitesurfing yourself.
