Overview
Nerja sits at the eastern, quieter end of the Costa del Sol, best known for the Balcón de Europa — a clifftop viewpoint right in the town centre — and the Nerja Caves, a large and genuinely impressive cave system just outside town. It has a noticeably calmer, more traditional feel than the bigger resorts further west.
Families & toddlers
The town’s coves and small beaches are attractive rather than vast, and the Nerja Caves make an excellent, slightly different family day out from a typical beach day.
Couples, teens & nightlife
A relaxed, scenic evening scene centred on the Balcón de Europa and the old town’s restaurants — genuinely one of the more romantic Costa del Sol bases, popular with couples and older visitors.
Seniors & accessibility
The Balcón de Europa and central old town are flat and easy to reach; some of the coves involve steps down to the beach, so it’s worth checking specific access if that matters.
Best time to visit
Mild and pleasant for much of the year, with a calmer, less peak-driven feel than Benidorm or Torremolinos even in high summer.
