Overview
Puerto del Carmen is Lanzarote’s largest and busiest resort, built along a long seafront promenade lined with restaurants, bars and shops. It began as a fishing village (the old harbour area, La Tiñosa, still has that character) and grew into the island’s main tourist hub.
Families & toddlers
Playa Grande and Playa de los Pocillos are wide, gently shelving beaches well suited to families, and the resort’s sheer size means a huge range of family-oriented restaurants and activities along the promenade. Several water-sports operators run from the beach for older kids and teens.
Couples, teens & nightlife
The Old Town/harbour end is where most of the nightlife sits, with a good spread of bars and late restaurants; couples wanting something quieter tend to base themselves toward the Los Pocillos end of the strip, away from the busiest bars.
Seniors & accessibility
The promenade is long, flat and easy walking for most of its length, with plenty of ground-level, accessible dining — though its length means deciding which end to stay at matters more here than in smaller resorts.
Best time to visit
Lanzarote is mild and dry virtually year-round, making it one of the more reliable winter-sun islands as well as a solid summer choice.
